 Summer Surprise
At an elevation of 6,047 feet, Richland Balsam marks the highest point along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This high altitude creates a cool, moist environment for the few, remaining fraser fir and red spruce trees that once dominated landscapes of the southern Appalachians, and a provides a summertime home to blooming coneflowers.
