Doc Watson's seamless blending of country, folk, bluegrass, gospel, pop, and blues is the complete embodiment of Americana music. Though Doc has recorded a couple of blues-specific albums before, Trouble In Mind is the first career retrospective to highlight this often overlooked foundation of his trademark sound. You can't pigeonhole Doc as a stylist in any one given genre, but Trouble In Mind makes the convincing case that Doc's music is as informed by the blues as it is by any other form of music. It also definitively places Doc within the vaunted ranks of other country/acoustic/folk blues titans such as Mississippi John Hurt, Reverend Gary Davis, Lightnin' Hopkins, John Jackson, and Big Bill Broozy.
Following in the hugely successful wake of Foundation: The Doc Watson Guitar Instrumental Collection, the second part of this career retrospective series, Trouble In Mind, is sure to appeal to blues fans as much as it does his core bluegrass and folk audience.
